Day 3 - 4: Pangaea
Focus question: What was Alfred Wegener's hypothesis about continents? What evidence supported his hypothesis?
Materials needed: file folder cut in half (do not cut down the fold; cut the other direction), thick cardstock, photocopy of Pangaea, scissors, gluestick, ruler, pencil
Teacher suggestions: Have students glue Pangaea onto thick cardstock and color for homework before doing this lesson. Have a sample of how to color so that students can see that images that are the same will be the same color.
Time needed for construction: 1.5 periods
Homework #1:
Required: Research Alfred Wegener. Who was he? When did he live? What was his theory of continental drift? What was his evidence? Explain how your paper engineering shows different evidence of the theory of plate tectonics. Write 1 paragraph. Type of your paragraphs and make sure you save them as the sizing of the paragraphs may have to be reconfigured to fit the space available on the page.
Optional: Create a fliptab with a picture of Alfred Wegener on the outside. Inside have the above information as well as how his theory was originally received. Explain.
Resources:

Homework #2:
Research Pangaea (also spelled Pangea). What was Pangaea? When did it exist? What evidence is there to support that Pangaea existed? Type of your paragraphs and make sure you save them as the sizing of the paragraphs may have to be reconfigured to fit the space available on the page.
