About Us
Arts Integration
Our Dynamic Earth Pop-up Book project was an arts integration project made possible by an arts grant from the Marin Community Foundation and with the expertise of Ms. Katy Bernheim, visiting artist from Youth in Arts. The project was developed with the 6th grade science team and Ms. Bernheim as part of our geology unit at Hall Middle School in Larkspur, CA. Due to the nature of the written aspect, the project is appropriate for a variety of ages.
Ms. Katy Bernheim
Ms. Katy Bernheim has been drawing since she could hold a pencil. She graduated from Duke University with a degree in Art and Religion and holds a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential as well as a Single Subject Credential in Art. She has taught Art to children and senior citizens in after school programs, rec programs, and as an Artist in Residence in various schools. Drawing on her experiences and experimentation with drawing, painting, printmaking, bookmaking and sculpture, Ms. Bernheim infuses her classes with a wide array of knowledge and skills. Techniques, knowledge of materials, vocabulary, and art history are melded with encouragement to express, envision and reflect in students’ artwork. She shares a painting studio in Fairfax, and teaches Art to children as a Youth In Arts Mentor Artist, as a visiting artist for the Art of Yoga Project, as well as in Lagunitas School’s Montessori program.
